I Didn't Do IT!

Next to the word "body" being said about a million times, the character Mr. Green says, "I didn't do it!" over and over again in the 1985 movie Clue. If you haven't seen this movie, I don't know what's wrong with you. It's a cult classic and a simple, funny movie. It brings to life a classic board game and has you guessing until the very end.

But how about a shadow cast version of it? If you've seen the film and know what a shadow cast is then you are probably thinking that's impossible. I was with you in thinking that. Then I watched the impossible happen. Art in the Public Eye put on 3 performances of Clue as a shadow cast while the film was playing on November 1st & 2nd.

With the direction of the very talented Erin Coon, the artistic director of APE, they pulled off a performance unlike any other. With her skillful eye and knowledge of the performing arts, Erin was able to direct the entire cast and crew to make every scene happen in real time with the film. This movie has a lot of moving parts and is very fast. I had to shoot 2 shows in order to get everything because I was just unable to move fast enough to specific spots to get the perfect angle.

Quick run through of what a shadow cast is. You have actors preforming the scenes of film while it's playing. They film provides all of the sound. The actors need to learn all of the moves in sync with the film and not be able to see it at the same time. In some ways this can be a bit tougher than simply acting because you have to mimic something perfectly that you didn't do at first. And if you don't do it correctly everyone will know because it's the right way is shown at the same time. Being in a shadow cast is perfect for those who find it hard to talk in public!

Everyone did an amazing job and looked awesome doing it too thanks to Glens Falls Community Theatre lending out some costumes. It was a lot of fun to shoot. Check out the photos below and be sure to keep an eye out for the next APE event, 24 hour play fest. Be a part of it too! They are always looking for fresh blood to join in!
